Adversity is a difficult or unpleasant situation. It’s a situation that limits your freedom: Joblessness, sickness, depression, demonic attacks, etc. Adversity can be further defined as a state or condition of serious continuous difficulty. A condition marked by calamity and distress, the ill wind that blows no good. It’s a situation that tends to or is capable of separating you from fully appropriating the blessings of God. The truth is adversity does not leave you the same way it met you.
It can either leave you broken or mended, disgusted or distinguished, a success or a failure, a victim or a victor, bitter or better, how you handle it matters a lot. It’s not something you can run away from, just as gold is tested by fire, man is test by adversity. So instead of strategizing and coming up with defense mechanisms on how to avoid them, rather, spend quality time equipping yourself with the Word of God that will sustain you through this unpleasant times so that when the going gets tough, the tough gets going.
The truth is, adversities are ways by which God sanctify His children, discipline His children to glorify His Name and as long as you don’t allow them overcome you, there’s always a glorious ending. Adversity shouldn’t get you down except on your kneel. If you faint in the day of adversity, your faith is small. Have courage in the face of adversity. Let them be the means and tools by which God brings you out for a manifestation at a particular point in time. It’s better to be calm in your adversity and see the good in them because that’s the only way they can have a positive impact on you.
The best way to manage adversities is to rejoice in the adversities. The Scripture states that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose for them. The thief’s purpose is to steal, kill and destroy, but His purpose is to give you a rich and satisfying life. Be optimistic and believe that God cares for you, for He knows the plans He has for you, they are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and hope. He cares a great deal about you and has your best interest at heart.
Go to Him in earnest prayer, He is the only One that can fight your battles and free you from the chains and shackles placed on you, thus erasing all the memories and records of all prison experiences. When you go to Him in prayer, allowing Him to be the architect of your destiny, gates are bound to open. God will give you the grace to bear your affliction. Don’t get impatient. Your being impatient may lead you to try out other options that may eventually lead you to more troubles, because God is the only way. Whatever the devil gives you, he collects back in double. He never gives you anything for free. It's like going from frying pan to fire.
Don’t be deceived, feed on the Word of God daily, be kingdom oriented. Witness for Christ, be a soul winner, be more committed to Him. Believe that in every situation, God wants you to triumph. And according to Taiwo Odukoya who inspired this piece by the way, let the ‘T’ in triumph be your ‘training in obedience’, R – refinement of believers character, I – intimacy with our compassionate God, U – understanding the situation of others, M – maturity for ministration to others, P – perseverance in difficult times and let the ‘H’ be hope. If you can adopt these principles, in times of adversities, despite the hardship, trust me your victory isn't far. Peace and love.
